Is a Swiss job offer actually good for my budget?
A gross monthly salary alone cannot answer that question. The calculator separates contracted pay, deductions and living costs so you can see the remaining budget. A market comparison is shown only when you provide a defensible benchmark.
Back to the calculatorWhat goes into the analysis
Review the inputs and fill gaps before relying on the result.
-
Guaranteed pay
Enter the monthly amount and whether the contract provides 12 or 13 payments.
-
Work and location
Add the role and workplace for context, without assuming a national wage fits every profile.
-
Deductions
Use your actual social contributions, pension and tax estimates where known.
-
Living costs
Enter rent, health insurance, transport and other recurring expenses.
What the result can tell you
Read the result together with its assumptions and data quality.
-
Annual basis
Compare guaranteed yearly pay before relying on bonuses or reimbursements.
-
Monthly budget
See the remainder after the costs you entered, with the assumptions kept visible.
-
Market position
Get a wage comparison only when a credible monthly benchmark is supplied.
-
Data gaps
Identify unknown or approximate deductions that could change the conclusion.
Example: CHF 8,500 and 13 salaries in Zurich
CHF 8,500 paid thirteen times gives a different guaranteed annual amount from twelve payments. Rent, insurance and tax may then change the usable monthly budget. An optional market median is a separate question.
These figures illustrate the method, not an individual net salary or tax bill. Confirm the contract and applicable deductions.
- Monthly gross pay
- CHF 8,500 in the contract
- Guaranteed payments
- 13 per year, if the contract confirms it
- Benchmark
- Optional; enter a relevant verified figure
- Budget
- Calculated from your actual deductions and costs

- Federal Statistical Office (FSO) Official wage statistics; choose a relevant role and profile.
- Federal Social Insurance Office (FSIO) Official information about social insurance contributions.

Common questions
Check the limits before making a decision.
Does the tool calculate my exact net pay?
No. Pension plans, tax status, canton and individual deductions can differ. Use payslips or official calculations where possible.
What happens if I leave the market benchmark blank?
You can still analyse your budget. The result should not claim that the offer is above or below market.
Should I count a bonus as guaranteed?
Only if the contract makes it guaranteed. Keep discretionary bonuses and expenses separate.
Why include health insurance separately?
Mandatory health insurance is normally paid by the resident, not treated as a standard wage deduction.
Illustrative budget, not individual tax, pension or financial advice.
